At MoMAG, our primary objective is to influence the policy decisions of telcos against mobile money agents. We represent the collective voice of thousands of mobile money agents across the country who serve as the backbone of the digital financial ecosystem.
Over the years, mobile money agents have played a critical role in deepening financial inclusion, especially in underserved and rural communities. However, recent actions and policy shifts by telecommunications companies (telcos) have increasingly undermined the sustainability and dignity of our work.
These decisions—often made without consultation or consideration of our role—have included:
-
Unfavorable commission structures
-
Unilateral changes to agent terms of service
-
The rollout of telco-owned agent networks competing directly with existing agents
-
Increased operational costs without corresponding support
MoMAG was founded in direct response to these challenges. We aim to advocate for fair treatment, demand transparent policy-making, and push back against exploitative practices. By organizing agents under a common platform, we are creating a unified front capable of lobbying regulators, engaging with policymakers, and holding telcos accountable.
Our mission is not just to protect the livelihood of mobile money agents, but to ensure that any policies made in the sector prioritize equity, fairness, and long-term sustainability for all stakeholders.
Through coordinated advocacy, research, dialogue, and strategic partnerships, MoMAG continues to assert its presence as a critical player in shaping the mobile financial services landscape.
